She said she wanted to win, and she did it. Beatrice Colli became the Youth A Speed World Champion in Voronezh, Russia. A practically perfect performance, Beatrice stopped the clock at 7.92 seconds, beating Germany's Nuria Brockfield and the United States' Callie Close, who finished second and third on the podium, respectively. This was an extraordinary victory for the Rock Experience ambassador and athlete of the Ragni di Lecco team , coming after numerous successes and international placings in the European Cup and European Championships, and this time allowing her to reach the top of the world for the first time in her still-brief athletic career.
" I showed up at the gym with the desire to perform well, without the anxiety of having to win or prove anything to anyone, even though I had said at the beginning of the year that I was going to the World Championships to win ," Beatrice says. "I approached the qualifications with the right energy and not too much anxiety. I was just a little nervous before the finals, but then I managed to control myself and the victory came. It was a victory that I wasn't expecting but that I knew I could bring home because my opponents were running at my times and there was no one beyond my reach . "
A sensational victory from the best possible athlete, a climber capable of winning two gold medals and a bronze at the Italian Youth Championships and a gold medal at the Youth World Championships in just eight days , as coach Fabio Palma stated, continuing: " She had publicly declared it in January; it was her main goal among many, being so versatile, for a 2021 that has turned out to be fantastic. She deserves it all, and I'm honored to coach her and to have accompanied her to a historic result. Ultimately, I truly live to write about it . " A victory that Beatrice dedicated to coach Fabio and his family. "It's to Fabio, and his commitment, that I owe most of my victories," Beatrice continued. "And, obviously, also to my family, who supported me financially, accompanied me to training everywhere, and gave me the opportunity to travel. It's also thanks to them that I've come this far."
Passion, willpower, talent, sacrifice, and the desire to fulfill all those dreams that have defined the life of a sixteen-year-old who has juggled her days between school and training for years. This is what lies at the heart of Beatrice's success. Born in 2004 and originally from Colico (Lecco), Beatrice began climbing at a very young age, first on the walls near her home and then in the gym, where her passion has grown day after day, allowing her to achieve ever greater successes.
"Beatrice is a true talent, and we were confident she would bring us great satisfaction, " says Michele Frigerio, founder of Rock Experience. " The bond with the Lecco area and the shared passion of world-renowned athletes have always been essential values for Rock Experience. For years, our credo has been to develop products 'for athletes with athletes,' a philosophy demonstrated by our collaborations with athletes and leading Italian mountaineering clubs such as the Ragni di Lecco and the Gamma Group. Supporting Beatrice is a source of pride for us."
And Beatrice is already focused on her next goals: the Italian Speed Cup on September 4th and the Speed World Championships, where she'll compete against competitors much older than her. "Finally, a goal that's very close to my heart," says Beatrice , "is the European Youth Bouldering Cup in October. I hope to be called up and achieve a good placing in the Bouldering event as well, because for me, Speed isn't the only thing."
